Engine hard to start Automatic Choke (V-8 only) not actuated properly by operator Instruct operator to depress accelerator pedal slightly before cranking with starter "Adjust. For V-8 engine [Remove carb. Block choke valve full open. With Screwdriver turn counter-clock-wise. Turn adjustment plug until air valve just contacts the stop. Then screw plug in 1 - 1/4 turn more. Hold plug in position (with screwdriver then tighten lockscrew against plug. Manually check that valve moves freely. "
Carbuertor air cleaner filter excessively dirty Clean; or replace.
Automatic choke valve inoperative because linkage is sticking. Clean linkage.
"Fuel pump not delivering sufficent fuel due to clogged vent in fuel tank cap." "Remove and inspect cap; clean as required then reinstall. Ensure that rubber splash-apron grommet does not contact cap base so as to obstruct air venting."
Automatic choke (V-8 only) vacuum hose leaking; (loose or disconnected) Connect or tighten as necessary
Water in fuel Siphon fuel from about 1/32 inch above bottom of tank into glass jar to partially fill jar; inspect fluid in jar for layer of water below fuel. If water is present repeat procedure until tank fluid is free of water.
Engine operation is sluggish Carburetor air cleaner filter excessively dirty Clean; or replace.
Fuel pump output pressure low Replace pump
Fuel filter clogged Replace.
Rocker-arm cover (Crank case) vent valve (V-8 engine only) vacuum hose not attached to carburetor Connect hose to carburetor
Rough or too-slow engine idling Idle jets incorrectly adjusted Adjust. *SEE NOTES*
